Entrepreneurs on the Rise! its Your time to Shine

ENTREPRENEURS ON THE RISE
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TORONTO DECEMBER 26 2014

Hi World its your girl JA Nursing  Hope all  OF you had a great Christmas dinner and family time.  I myself had to work on Christmas day but I truly don't mind. You know how precious the gift of life is? Well you already know the answer to that. Priceless. I had a patient age 36 who hopefully by Gods grace she will be able to ring in the New Year. My prayers goes out to her.

So its Boxing day and my Christmas present to myself was to continue to create JA Nursing in the Streets. What is  this new concept? will its actually not a new concept In the spirit of Nursing I call it Advocacy.

AT JA SMITH CONSULTING AND NURSING SERVICES our community division
JA NURSING  strives on supporting Advocacy.

What is advocacy?

Advocacy in all its forms seeks to ensure that people, particularly those who are most vulnerable in society, are able to:
  • Have their voice heard on issues that are important to them.
  • Defend and safeguard their rights.
  • Have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives.
Advocacy is a process of supporting and enabling people to:
  • Express their views and concerns.
  • Access information and services.
  • Defend and promote their rights and responsibilities
  • Explore choices and options
An advocate is someone who provides advocacy support when you need it. An advocate might help you access information you need or go with you to meetings or interviews, in a supportive role. You may want your advocate to write letters on your behalf, or speak for you in situations where you don’t feel able to speak for yourself.
As your advocate I will spend time with you to get to know your views and wishes.
Advocacy can be helpful in all kinds of situations

About a month ago I met Antoinette Dumuje, founder of Heavenz Inspirational Décor Inc. Created  in December 2009,  She is one Toronto's creative and innovative up-and-coming event producers.  She had a vision and so did I. My consulting services help to change the face of your event by adding a unique approach to your event. While Entrepreneur ON THE RISE was a completed vision with the vision to highlight  successful women in Business,  I put a twist on it by including vendor interviews and of course giving a little JA Nursing Twist by including the thought  provoking question of How Do you  Handle Entrepreneur Life and your health?  With this vision and the great work by Dominique Morris of Perfectkeys a finish production his here to show.

Oil of Oregano is a wonderful #natural #remedy for sinus congestion. A common solution is to add 3 drops of the oil into a glass of juice and drink this mixture daily for 3 to 5 days.

    Wash Your Hands

Hi it's you girl JA Nursing

it's that time again,  sick season so I'm going to cover 2 topics  for kids and adults

Sometimes as a Nurse I wonder how sick are you? While many people are able to quickly recognize that something is going through their system,  One of the common questions I have been asked is should I take the flu? I always ask why and they say because I get the flu anyways.

That's  not the case people are unable to differentiate between a common cold and influenza. The common cold and flu are different types of viral infections of the respiratory system. Because they share similar symptons and may feel the same, it can be hard to tell them apart.

Both cold and flu viruses spread from person to person. This means that getting either a cold or the flu may be prevented by washing your hands often and avoiding close contact with anyone with a cold or the flu. If you are infected with the cold or flu virus, get plenty of rest to help fight the infection.  Drinking lots of fluids is also important to stay hydrated and loosen mucus.

FACT: Antibiotics treat bacteria, not viruses. Since both the common cold and influenza are viral infections, antibiotics will not help. And that's why your Doctor never wants to prescribe antibiotics.

Your  pharmacy has a variety of over the counter products that can help alleviate your cold or flu symptoms. People don't realize this but pharmacists are always available to answer your questions.

    Influenza vs. Common Cold

This chart features some tips to help you differentiate between the symptoms of influenza and the common cold.

    I always like to recommend

    How to protect your kids

Virus can spread from person to person through coughing and sneezing, by close contact with infected persons or by touching a contaminated surface.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says the most effective measures you can do to protect yourself and children :

Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.

    · If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer.

    · Wash your hands: before and after eating, after you have been in a public place, after using the washroom, after coughing and sneezing, after touching common surfaces

Cough and sneeze into your arm, not your hand

Keep your hands away from your face

Keep common surface areas clean and disinfected

If you get sick, stay home

Ensure your immunizations are up to date

This has been watching out for your #health  #janursing

America lost another Great one in History Marion Barry RIP

    Let him Rest In Peace

Hi Good Morning/afternoon  happy Sunday all !
It's your girl JA Nursing This is your Social buzz today. I woke up to the sad news that Marion Barry has died at  the age of 78. Who? You might ask? Was not the question that I had. But what does this mean for me? I'm Canadian right, but nope I'm a Mother an advocate and a curious individual that gets tired of not being able to hear or see   The   well known  biblical quote  which says
Give  unto  Cesar what is due  to him .
So I took to my twitter handle  @janursing  to write my condolence . Then I saw

@CP24: Former DC mayor Marion Barry, who staged comeback after 1990 crack cocaine arrest, dead at 78. Hmmm !

My first impression was why did Cp24 have to add that in the title?    I understand breaking news is the goal of media but I found it rather hard in the same line when talking about a persons passing; Especially because of the many changes that he helped to implement.

I continued to do more research and of course   let it be known that yes in 1990 Marion Barry found himself in less than favorable circumstances which  involved Crack, a hotel and a women.

However, as I went on to read about Marion Barry I noticed that there has been parallels made between  Him and Toronto Mayor Rob Ford which if memory serves me correctly has had less than favorable working standards for the Mayor of Toronto dating not to far back to 2013,2014.
In may 2013 reporters asked Mr Barry about parallels with him and Rob Ford.

Toronto has been seen across the world as the city that has a Crack Mayor who loves dancing to reggae and shouting out worlds like  Bumboclaat

    Definition

One of the most popular swear words in Jamaica. Though this word doesn't have an actual meaning or english translation, it is mostly used as an exclamation of shock, surprise, anger, frustration or for any other intense emotions.

As sited in a You Tube video that captured Rob Ford  at  a restaurant. In Rexdale aka ward 2

    http://youtu.be/iXpwflzSF4M

Barry died Sunday at 78. His family said in a statement that Barry died shortly after midnight at the United Medical Center, after having been released from Howard University Hospital on Saturday. No cause of death was given, but his spokeswoman LaToya Foster said he collapsed outside his home.

Marion Barry also suffered from hypertension and diabetes which for me is two chronic illness killers of the black community. This is what should be talked about,  ways in which his health could have been protected.

We already know that Barry had  a six-month term in federal prison which was not the end of his political career. To many  the talks about his 1990 hotel room saga is not the memory of this man. To many district residents, particularly lower-income blacks, he was still a hero, someone unfairly persecuted for personal failures.

Barry returned to the D.C. Council in 1992, representing the poorest of the city’s eight wards. Two years later, he won his fourth and final term as mayor. The electorate was starkly divided along racial lines, and Barry advised those who had not supported his candidacy to “get over it.”

“Marion Barry changed America with his unmitigated gall to stand up in the ashes of where he had fallen and come back to win,” poet Maya Angelou said in 1999.  Let's not get it twisted he done for many that no other could do.

With great concern as an advocate I will continue to feel that no person is with out faults, as I stand here with an attempt to highlight and recognize Barry's great acknowledgements, in a time when history is the only thing we have to fight for I would rather tell my Son age 15 that a man died today  who was once the mayor, of DC and he did great things.

    http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/world/rob-ford-saga-recalls-trials-and-tribulations-of-marion-barry-1.2421809

Despite his history of political and legal controversies, Barry was a popular and influential figure in the local political scene of Washington, D.C. Thealternative weekly Washington City Paper nicknamed him "Mayor for life," a designation that remained long after Barry left the mayoralty.[4] TheWashington Post has stated that "to understand the District of Columbia, one must understand Marion Barry

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Barry

Being from Toronto born in the 70's yes I said 70's  my worldly knowledge of black historians  has been quite slim, but I believe that knowledge is power.  I will continue to use social media as a platform to be a Social And Health advocate. My 9:16 am search lead to these  different comments on twitter under the hashtag  #RipmarionBarry.

@Read2RapMusic: “@JaNursing: @BigTiggerShow I've been saying the same thing from morning @Read2RapMusic http://t.co/CpbHsTHgfx” always bringing up Old Bleep

@Fox5DCAllison: He gave me my first paying job in the business with his summer youth program. #RIPMarionBarry #MayorForLife

@BigTiggerShow: #RIPMarionBarry.. Really disappointed to see this as the #headline for the passing of our…

@Kyrondo: @num1_fan @JaNursing @90zBy @CP24 They hated Barry  when he was expanding black middle class & making millionaires long b4 addiction.

@Fox5DCAllison: He gave me my first paying job in the business with his summer youth program. #RIPMarionBarry #MayorForLife

@DCDGS: To a man who dedicated his life 2 #elevateDC quality of life 4 all residents & visitors.. "Thank You" #RIPMarionBarry

@num1_fan: @JaNursing @90zBy Of all the actors and politicians with drug addiction, wonder how many of them got the "cocaine" headline from @CP24. Smh

@__KMicheIle: I will cherish the memories of the wisdom he passed on to me when I interviewed him #RIPMarionBarry @fox5newsdc

@HuggyLowdownDC: #RIPMarionBarry I'm giving thanks to the Man that gave me and a whole lot of people in DC their first JOB! #SYEP

@num1_fan @90zBy @CP24 our #Toronto  mayor has gone on with worst not in 1990 but in 2014 #RIPMarionBarry

So for today let's continue to remember a man who crossed boundaries that others have not crossed.

Let's continue to show and teach our youths that blacks have paved the way for many.

    RIP Marion Barry

Do you Suffer from Decision Fatigue? This could Be YOU !

Hi it's your girl Ja Nursing HERE,  This post is a guilty post, what's that you ask? well I bought a new jacket today, when I should have been buying winter tires.   To imagine JA Nursing in Toronto Streets with out safe tires. Not Cool. Safety is a part of Nursing; Shame on Me.

I'm always late with winterizing my car. The day started with the strong desire to get my tires today  BUT   I ended up all over the place. First 2 stops Martin grove and Rexdale. I went to  2 tire shops and  didn't like the wait time so I left and  I ended up at  Sears buying a Winter Jacket (Another one). Let it be known I saved $184.00 which still counts as being on the simplistic list. {right}  I guess my mind was being practical in thinking if my car breaks down this winter I'll be warm.

    Mission failed

    I reached home tire less  with a new coat! To say the least.   I started to do my regular evening social media browsing through Facebook  which brought me to and a article;  That stated "Successful people wear the same thing everyday." {Excuse me}
I Had to click on it.

It stated that some of the most successful people  in the world like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg,  Albert Einstein And Obama are

I've been on a mission lately  to pack and donate most of theses items,  but I've gotten so caught up in the decisions of what to keep and what to give away that the task  has not been  completed .

Hallelujah thankfully  The Lord heard my cry And sent this article through my Facebook feed.  Find it at the end of this blog.

I have been wondering why it has been so hard to get going with packing up theses clothes.  Like,  as if figuring out  parenting, how I'm going to take care of  my patients at work, look after my community responsibilities, blogging, cooking, socializing etc etc etc wasn't enough. Well, the answer  is called Decision fatigue, it's noted that Decision fatigue refers to the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual, after a long session of decision making.

Packing away  theses clothes has been last on my list of priorities. (To be honest).  It seems like it's all related to the concept of decision fatigue. This is a real psychological condition in which a person’s productivity suffers as a result of becoming mentally exhausted from making so many irrelevant decisions.

Going back to the article below it stated that our world leaders keep many thinks simple such as their wardrobe, In order to help leave room for important successful decisions.
The article  also  states,  that  Decision fatigue can result  in not only making fast and careless decisions but  can also contribute to decision avoidance, where no decision is made at all.  (NoTires)

Imagine  if  Mark Zuckerberg didn't make the important decision to create Facebook, or If Steve jobs didn't create Apple  or if Obama couldn't make his world changing   decisions. I don't even want to think about it.

Well,  I'd have to say that  I'm feeling a lot more clearer;   I'm not ready to conform to a personal wardrobe that only includes a uniform like presence, actually that altitude white lie. You see me around the city in my JA Nursing shirts (Uniform) but what  I can do is  start by packibg up theses extra clothes that are in my sight and donate them NOW.

I'm on my way to  clearing my brains.   It time for me to kick decision fatigue to the curb  so I can  continue creating JA Nursing Dreams and Goals leaving behind sense less tasks and thoughts.

    Lesson learned

The goal is success, but Inorder to achieve it you have to be focused and Simplistic  with decisions that shouldn't take up too much room In your head. I need to stop wasting time with the basic things so I can make room for the big things. You know the saying "Think Big".

Found A New Office Assistant Meet Lady P

Hi it's your girl  JA Nursing

With a long week ahead a lot of thoughts, I was doing my routine search on Facebook and came across Passion Planner Via Kick Starter

Through my quest for organization I have  found another young lady in search of the same mission.

Passion Planner is the revolutionary paper planner that helps you live passionately and start focusing on what REALLY matters.   Created by   Angelia Trinidad.

I went on a search  for more info, I saw a comment by someone named

Michelle  she wrote about 16 hours ago

I'm not a big fan of paper, but then I remembered I could print the pdf to OneNote and use it as if I was writing on it with my tablet computer! Your design is amazing. I wish you all the best in your pursuits. :)
I agree 😀 this started looking good to me.

As Angela asked here's my take. On  the Passion Planner!

Let's get focused. As discussed in the  video, I would agree that keeping yourself organized is the start to any great day. The desire to fit all your thoughts and turn them in to action is desired by many. Well,  I think  JA Nursing  has found a new planner that will turn into her  new office assistant.  let's call her Lady P for short (Or Miss Lady Passion)  my Official Office assistant;  hope she Has a sense of humor and  can help organize these thoughts !  Welcome Lady P to the camp

    Great idea Angela Trinidad
