Hi world it's your girl JA Nursing, What a excitement yesterday June 8 2015 . After meeting Mary Galvan at 1rst Friday's , she invited me to The Media Launch Of Durham Caribbean festival. I thought to my self that Durham seems a mile a away. LOL But truthfully the goal of JA Nursing is to build relationships with the community and bring awareness to events that increase social literacy. With such a diverse city I feel that all its community members should make a effort to share in the fun especially since the common factor here is the Caribbean culture and what it represents. Community love means taking the effort to participate when possible, which is the true recipe for community love and community building.

Our friends, neighbors and coworkers likely all stem from a variety of ethnic groups. The Durham Caribbean Festival has been created to raise awareness of cultural diversity and to help dispel negative stereotypes.The Caribbean Event Organization of Ontario believes that the diversity in our community is a fundamental strength of our region. Our mission to improve the quality of life for the residents of our region is best fulfilled when we embrace diversity as a value and a practice.
Our mission is to bring awareness to the benefits of cultural differences, the issues behind racial profiling and misconceptions affiliated with diversity on all levels. Throughout our work, we will support diversity in all of its forms, encompassing but not limited to age, disability, economic circumstance, ethnicity, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.

I must admit driving through Durham via the 407 was quite different from the congested bustle of Toronto, I joked about passing some cows on Salem Rd when I arrived. The warm welcome into Durham was certainly impressive. The community love was felt, the colors, the familiar faces, it all represented our Caribbean Community.
Durham establishes in 1974 is a city that I would have to admit is on the map as it relates to the diversity witnessed last night. From seeing funny man Jay Martin do is thing at keeping the crowd well entertained to G98.7 fm Mr Fitroy Gordon setting the record straight, that the voiceless will have a voice through his determination to see Caribbean people united worldwide. The recognition and efforts of JN Money Transfer, Mr Wilks Consulate General of Jamaica, the efforts of all the community members was well recognized. lets not forget about the food, it brought me right back home in a sexy tasty way. As a West End Advocate I would certainly encourage you all to fill your tank and take the ride to Durham Region with in the next week and certainly marking June 28 2015 as a must attend event when the festivities go live.
